Bestival Bands Competition Review: Part Five

Clearly you will have already read parts one, two, three and four of my Bestival Island Bands and DJ Competition.

Bestival Bands Competition Review: Part FiveHere’s my final instalment, hope you’ve enjoyed reading the review as much as I enjoyed watching the bands. Roll on September is all I can say!

So, last up on the band list were The White Room “¦. wow, talk about stage presence. Sadly, they were only act of the night that we didn’t get a shot of – so you’ll have to make do with one from their site.

They completely filled the stage, which wasn’t hard, as I counted nine of them. Each had their own reason for being there, be it for their vocals or instrumentation. I absolutely loved this band … I thought they were completely awesome.

A word of warning, if you decide to check out their MySpace when at work, make sure you have your headphones plugged in, as some of the language can be a tad colourful.

As with all the other bands, they were massively into what they were doing on stage and it shone through. Hip hop is not particularly my choice of music to listen to, but I could completely appreciate their enthusiasm and passion for what they delivered.

Drums, guitars and hip hop – what a great warm up band for the Beastie Boys they would make. From out of nowhere, they made it through to the finalists and I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about them on the Island over the coming months. Expect to see them in the Beastie audience on Bestival Saturday and Sunday.

Bestival Bands Competition Review: Part FiveFinishing off the night on the decks was DJ TS of Radio Soma, FreeQuay and soon to be upon us, Yes Yes (details on the Blog tomorrow).

This young lad was enjoying himself so much that it was virtually impossible to get him off the decks. It was totally mental stuff. Again, I wish I’d had the energy to dance, but my legs were just about holding me upright. I love that dubstep jungle mash up and TS really can play the crowd well.

He’s another one of those cheeky chaps who builds up the tempo and then BHAM, hits you with an assortment of rhythms and beats, all superbly timed and delivered with incredible style.

I hope that Rob has saved some space on the DJ lineup, as TS would go down massively in one of the DJ tents at Bestival.

So, that was the night I regained my Bestival fever. The anticipation of the three day festival in September is even stronger now and I can’t wait to be amazed by the eclectic mix of music on offer.

Just a final word to say well done to everyone involved, those playing, those who won a place at Bestival and those who make it all happen.

Thumbs up to Kate Jackman and the crew (during difficult times) for pulling the night together, Tom Stroud and Ross Findon for their esteemed judging and of course, the main man, Rob Da Bank, without whom none of this would be a reality.
