If you happen to be in London Town a week on Sunday, and fancy a great party, then head over to the Lido in Brockwell Park, London SE24.
The party has been organised to raise awareness for the Swim to Bestival event which we covered earlier in the year. So far, 16 people have signed up to swim across the Solent for charity to get to Bestival.
The charities benefiting from the madness of these 16 individuals (and any other brave souls) will be The Imibala Trust and Marie Curie Cancer Care. If you decide to go to the party, you’ll have a chance to meet the nutty 16 in person as they parade and pose in their speedos and will be able to donate to the cause.
So what else does the party bring? Well Fake Bush, the world’s greatest Kate Bush impersonator, will be unveiling her new Bollywood set complete with ‘Temple Bushywood’ Deities, clouds of wafting incense, a proscenium arch, lotus flower podiums, and Kate Bush songs re-mixed with sitars and Indian riffs!
One man band, Nic Dawson Kelly (pictured here with some oranges) will be joining the party with his guitar, piano, saxophone and harmonica (must be a strong lad). When you discover that his influences are Mungo Jerry, Franz Kafka, Albert Einstein, Sir Isaac Newton and Colonel Saunders (yes he of KFC fame) it might help you understand his music more. Take a listen to Music Man over on his MySpace. Superb stuff.
Finally on the live line up, another fresh signing to Sunday Best Records (they are busy this year), Alice McLaughlin will performing her magnificent, soulful pop songs twisted with tinges of blues and folk
and you’ll see what we mean.
On the DJ front, Justin Robertson will be treating everyone to a very rare 7″ set that’s sure to be as slick as his tailored jackets and he’ll be joined by none other than main man Rob Da Bank. But those guys don’t want to be spinning all night, so the Sombrero Sound System will be bringing their singles and albums to give the others a chance to party.
It wouldn’t be a Bestival party without fancy dress and for this one they’re keeping it simple – dig through your dressing up box and find your favourite hat or wig.
Don’t forget your swimming attire alos, as the pool will be open for anyone wishing to take a dip.
It’ll run from 6pm ’til 11pm and the door tax is £5. You can buy tickets in advance from www.wegottickets.com/event/19848 or on the door in a strictly 1st come 1st served fashion.
Brockwell Park Lido is on Dulwich Road SE24. Nearest rail is Herne Hill and tube is Brixton.
As well as the Swim To Bestival charities, Bestival will also be helping to raise awareness and money for several other charities this year. There will be a Charity Tent in the Village area of the site, next door to the WI Tea Tent, where you will be able to find information and make donations to several charitable organisations including Shelter, Earl Mountbatten Hospice (IOW), Sandown and Shanklin Inshore Lifeboat Rescue (IOW), RSPB, Lake of Stars (Malawi Charity), The Project at The Park Center Ryde (IOW), Youth Volunteering at Citizens Advice, IOW Helicopter Recue, UK Transplants/Organ Donation, Samaritans and WhatNotToShare.
