Blue-Eyed Boys is a series of monumental portraits of gay men from the ‘Bear’ world.
They represent an alternative vision of gay male beauty which celebrates men who are large, bearded and older.
Nicholas Martin’s large-scale oil paintings draw inspiration from Renaissance portraiture by producing incredibly life-like portraits and often reference Holbein.
Martin has exhibited at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery and his work will be accompanied by miniature portraits (below) by Brighton Artist; Russell Webb; juxtaposing the scale of Martin’s paintings in the Michael West Gallery Annex.
The drinks reception will take place on Saturday 7 March between 2-4pm. Everyone is welcome.
There is also a free talk on Thursday 12 march between 6-8pm.
