Police are now in a position to name the man found dead in the Solent on Monday, November 15, 2010.
The body of David Alan Powell, a 64-year-old solicitor who worked in Ryde on the Isle of Wight, was formally identified by next-of-kin. He was married for more than 41 years to his wife with whom they had three children.
Yachtsmen spotted Mr Powell
A yachtsmen spotted Mr Powell’s body in the water in the Ryde Middle Bank area of the Solent and notified HM Coastguard on the morning of Monday, November 15, 2010. Police were called at 11.41am the same day (Monday).
Hampshire Constabulary’s Marine Unit was assisted by Cowes RNLI lifeboat in bringing the body ashore to West Cowes so it could be taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Newport.
Not being treated as suspicious
The death is not being treated as suspicious.
Police are preparing a file for HM Isle of Wight Coroner who will open and adjourn an inquest today (Thursday, November 18, 2010) when the preliminary results of a post-mortem examination on Mr Powell’s body are due to be confirmed.
