We’re greatly saddened to hear that the hugely-inspirational Asa Singleton has suffered a stroke.
The stroke was caused by pressure due to his brain tumours and he is now needing 24 hour care by two people, which his family are taking turns to provide.
Asa’s life has been hampered by a rare condition caused by Neurofibromatosis Type 2. This disease affects 1 in 40,000 people and is as yet, incurable and potentially life-threatening.
Even through the years of countless operations to remove the tumours, Asa has remained a positive influence on so many people’s lives with his amazing courage and constant optimism.
Despite the difficult situation, Asa rallied over Christmas, spending an enjoyable time with his family in Ryde.
Many of you will already know of Asa, whether it’s personally, through his TV and newspaper interviews or through the film of his life, This is Asa by Simon Higgin which has been shown several times on the Island over the last couple of years.

We met up with Asa back in October 2007 to talk about his People’s People Award for Bravery, how he was getting on at the Isle of Wight College and one of his highlights of 2007, meeting his lifelong idols The Beastie Boys at Bestival.
