On Saturday evening, the Brave Island project announced the winner of their Young Artist Award.
The Blue Room at Ventnor Exchange was packed to the gunnels for the exhibition preview, which saw 24-year-old Aaron Mitchell (pictured above left) announced as winner for his triptych of intricate pen and ink drawings.
Complete freedom to express themselves through art
Young people were invited to submit their artwork in any medium (photography, graphic design, painting etc.), and any size, with the only requirement being that it had to be able to be hung on a wall.
Young artists were given complete creative freedom, with an opportunity to showcase their skills as an artist.
The shortlist of entries includes a great range of work from painting, textile designs, photography and drawings.
Creative Network
In recognition of Aaron’s achievement News OnTheWight has gifted Aaron membership to the Isle of Wight Creative Network.
This unique programme is designed to help creatives and artists on the Isle of Wight develop their practice – involving Creative Zoom sessions, 1-2-1 creative business mentoring, photo shoots, portfolio sessions, away days, networking events, bursaries and more.
As previously reported, applications to the IW Creative Network close at midday today (Wednesday 16th). If you know someone who might benefit from the annual membership, you can purchase and gift it to them. Once you have done this, they need to complete the forms by midday today.
