Brazil, directed by Terry Gilliam, a visual feast of a film exploring a bureaucratic and dysfunctional society is to be screened for one night only at Quay Arts in the Anthony Minghella on 17 Jul, 7:30pm.
Written by Terry Gilliam, Tom Stoppard and Charles McKeown who wrote all the propagandist statements that flash in the background it tells the tale of Sam Lowry (Jonathan Pryce), a young man who tries to find a woman who appears in his dreams while he is working in a dead-end job and living a dull life in a small apartment.
Set in a dystopian world with an over-reliance on the surrounding and deteriorating machinery, this satirical look at Lowry’s world explores the themes of bureaucratic, totalitarian government reminiscent of George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four.
Directed by Terry Gilliam, it was released in 1985 but did not meet with instant success, instead growing to the cult classic it is today over time. It did win several awards and was nominated for two Oscars.
Not to be missed!
