‘Bring a mate’ to your Covid-19 vaccination appointment

Anyone aged 18 or over, who has booked an appointment for either their first or second Covid-19 vaccination dose at the Solent NHS Trust run large-scale vaccination centre on the Isle of Wight, can take someone with them to their appointment to also receive a vaccine.

People can bring a friend, or family member (also aged 18 or over), to receive their first or second vaccination on the same day at The Riverside Centre, Newport on the Isle of Wight.

Noyes: Some people may feel more comfortable bringing someone along
David Noyes, Chief Operating Officer at Solent NHS Trust, said,

“We recognise that some people may feel more comfortable bringing someone along to their vaccination for support, or to share the experience.

“By giving people the opportunity to come to their appointment with another person and get their life-saving vaccinations, we hope that even more people will get vaccinated.”

Watson: One step closer to our summer freedoms
Dr Nigel Watson, Clinical Lead for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Covid-19 Vaccination Programme said,

“Getting the vaccine is our best defence against Covid-19 – with every adult vaccinated, we are one step closer to our summer freedoms. The vaccine cannot give you Covid-19 and will greatly reduce the chances of you becoming seriously ill.

“The first dose offers good levels of protection, but to get maximum protection everyone will need two vaccines and I urge people to remember their second dose. Being fully vaccinated also significantly reduces the risk of people developing long term complications of Covid-19.”

Make and appointment
To make an appointment to receive the vaccine call 119 free of charge between 7am and 11pm daily or visit Coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccination – NHS.

If people would prefer, they can also walk-in for a first or second Covid-19 vaccine at one of the centres.

To use the walk-in vaccine service, people will need to arrive at one of the vaccination centres (on foot or by car, parking is available) in Basingstoke, Portsmouth, or Southampton between 8am and 7.30pm, Monday to Sunday.  Vaccines are offered on a first come, first served basis and there may be a short wait for people to receive their vaccine. People should bring their NHS number if they have it.

Second vaccinations
Second vaccinations are available at the walk-ins if it has been at least eight weeks since the first dose.

  • Second vaccinations for Astra Zeneca and Pfizer can be offered at The Riverside Centre on the Isle of Wight.

To find dates and times of other walk-in clinics across Hampshire, including at the Riverside Centre in Newport on the Isle of Wight, people can visit the Website.
