Budget Cuts: ‘Taking A More Joined Up Approach’ To Housing Services And Supporting People Programme

More details of proposed budget cuts being presented next week.

Budget Cuts: 'Taking A More Joined Up Approach' To Housing Services And Supporting People Programme We have just seen the full Isle of Wight council cut proposals which have just been outlined in preparation of the December Cabinet Meeting.

Here’s what they say about the Housing Services and the Supporting People programme …

The Housing Services department focuses on working with housing providers to ensure that people who are at risk of being or who are actually homeless are supported and that there is sufficient supply of appropriate housing for those people unable to buy their homes or pay full market rents.

In addition the department focuses on regulating homes of multiple occupancy. Finally, through the Supporting People programme and Disabled Facility Grant programme, it supports people at risk of not being able to manage within their homes to continue to be able to do so.

By taking a more joined up approach to these issues and in particular recognising the common interests with Adult Social Care and Community Safety, along with a robust examination of management arrangements and prioritisation of activity, significant efficiency savings can be delivered over a full year.

We will be looking to bring this together with some aspects of children’s services to ensure a seamless provision of support to some of our most vulnerable families, thereby avoiding unnecessary duplication of effort and being more co-ordinated in the advice and support offered to them.
