Thanks to Andy for the latest update on Ryde Inshore Rescue’s weekend activities. Ed
Ryde Inshore Rescue had a busy afternoon yesterday (Sunday), when their total number of call-outs this year rose to 13.
After a quiet day, the afternoon shift were preparing to go home, when the Duty Watch Officer noticed a speed boat had not moved for a while, and the occupants were trying to start their engine without success.
After consulting Solent Coastguard, the crew of Ryde Rescue 1 were scrambled to launch and investigate at approx 1700hrs.
On arrival, it was confirmed that the speed boat (Mothers Luck) was suffering from engine failure, and the 4 persons on board required assistance. A line was set up and the boat was towed to Gosport and placed on safe moorings.
As the crew were reporting the details to QHM (Queens Harbour Master), they were tasked to go and investigate a report from the MOD Police that a 28′ yacht was sinking at Spiders Pond (Fareham), so the crew met the the Police launch on scene.
The yacht was taking on water, but there were no persons on board. The moorings were checked, and there was no sign that anyone had been on board recently.
The Police are carrying out further investigations, to try to trace the owner. The Lifeboat was released from the scene and returned to Ryde at 2000hrs.
