The unused sixth form provision at Carisbrooke College closes at the end of December, while there are changes in early years education at the Hunnyhill Primary site.
Described as a ‘paper exercise’, pupils at Carisbrooke College will not be affected by the closure, as no students are registered there.
Since 2016, the Island Education Federation secondary school has been linked to the Island VI Form at Nodehill instead.
Lowering age range to include pre-school
Meanwhile, Hunnyhill Primary School is lowering the age range at its school, to keep the pre-school open, which is attended by more than 30 youngsters.
Outgoing pre-school provider Jigsaw is being replaced by the primary school itself.
By lowering its intake age, the school will be able to run pre-school facilities in the same building and existing nursery staff will move across.
Andre: Praise for staff
Speaking at cabinet last night (Thursday), Cllr Debbie Andre, cabinet member for children’s education, said it was a good news story and thanked Hunnyhill Primary School for stepping in to ensure three to four-year-olds will still have an ‘excellent’ pre-school provision.
The decision, said Cllr Andre, ensured a continuity of care for the children.
