Planning A Royal Wedding Street Party?

It’s not something we’d consider doing, but many Islanders might want to use the Royal Wedding as an excuse to organise a street party. This in from the council, in their own words. Ed

Street PartyIf you are thinking of arranging a street party to celebrate the Royal Wedding, there are a couple of points you need to consider.

To hold a street party which would involve closing the road to traffic, a formal road closure will be required. The Isle of Wight Council will not be charging for these road closures.

Apply by 1st April
Any applications for a formal road closure require 28 days notice, which means the latest date an application can be received is 1 April.

Event organisers would also need to provide road closure signs. IW Council contractors, Docklands Traffic Management (DTM), has agreed to allow organisers to use road closure signs free of charge, provided they collect the signs in person from DTM’s depot in Newchurch and return them in the days after the party.

Anyone wishing to apply for a formal road closure should contact Highways on 823777 or email [email protected]

Temporary Event Notice
If you are planning on selling alcohol or providing entertainment then you may need a Temporary Event Notice. There is a small fee of £21 which is set by UK licensing laws, and 10 clear working days notice required. The latest date an application can be received is 12 April.

For advice on whether you need a temporary event notice, or to apply for one you contact IW Council Licensing on 823159 or email [email protected]

Both application forms are also available on the ‘Royal Wedding Street Parties’ page.
