National Meadows Day is officially on Saturday 6th July, but Naturezones in Blackwater will be celebrating this special day on Sunday 7th July.
With free entry from 11am to 3pm (donations welcome), it’s an excellent opportunity to connect with nature and learn about the importance of meadows.
Learning and Biodiversity
Visitors will have the chance to discover how to develop a mini wildflower meadow in various ways and learn how to manage it, guided by expert, Angela Hewitt BEM.
Additionally, there will be sessions on improving biodiversity in your garden, providing insights into what biodiversity is and why it matters.
Explore Naturezones
Guests are encouraged to stroll around and explore the Naturezones nature reserve. The area offers space for children to run through the meadow, allowing families to sit, listen, relax, and feed their souls.
Naturezones is known as a red squirrel hot spot, making it an even more exciting destination for wildlife enthusiasts.
Practical information
The reserve is accessible via the No. 3 bus route and the Cowes-Sandown cycle track. There is limited parking available on-site.
Simple refreshments will be available, and there is a small shop selling wildflower seeds, plants, and native trees.
A word from the founder
Founder and director Angela Hewitt BEM says,
“Naturezones is dedicated solely to nature and conservation education for everyone. For the past 17 years, we have been consistent with our message that habitats and the quality of habitats – their biodiversity – is a big step towards reducing the damaging effects of climate change. Look after biodiversity and everything else will follow.
“Everyone can do something. Gardens, school grounds, company outdoor spaces, the front lawn. At Naturezones, we help you make a difference.”
