Just a few months ago News OnTheWight shared the latest adventures of Island-based Chalkpit Records, with the launch of their Chalkpit Cassette Club.
Tapping into the resurgence of cassette tapes for music releases, Chalkpit Cassette Club has had several releases and as reported last year, was selected as one of the ten featured projects for NME X Squarespace ReBuild Music campaign.
Short film
As part of that campaign, a new short film has been produced about the Cassette Club and how working with Squarespace has helped them.
Founder of Chalkpit Records, Silas Gregory told News OnTheWight,
“We produced a MTV Cribs style video giving people behind the scenes access to Chalkpit HQ to show readers how we are kicking off the Chalkpit Cassette Club.”
Showcasing the beauty of the Island, after shooting in Chalkpit’s HQ, the film crew headed down to Freshwater Bay, where Silas explained how the Island has inspired him and the music community to push great things here.
Gregory: “We just want to make it happen”
Silas says,
“I learnt pretty quickly over here that there wasn’t a massive industry happening, everyone was saying it’s in London, so if we wanted to do anything over here we had to make it happen and definitely the DIY principals have always been at the heart of Chalkpit, we don’t wait about for people to say yes or no, we just want to make it happen.”

Things never stand still at Chalkpit though. In collaboration with Island Roasted, Chalkpit have launched a new coffee brand.
The Walkman Blend is a special tribute to the Sony Walkman cassette player, which changed the way music fans consumed and listened to music for good in 1979. The design
Silas explains that Chalkpit are offering free Island-wide delivery. All you have to do is use the code ‘IOWFREEPOST‘. He says all proceeds go back into the Cassette Club releasing and supporting new artists.
