Change to waste collection rules due to Storm Ciarán

Amber weather warnings of winds up to 80mph have been issued across the south of England from 06:00 GMT to 20:00 on Thursday 2nd November 2023.

Due to the high winds forecast the following changes are in place for waste and recycling collections across the Island for Thursday collections.

  • Please do not put bins out tonight (Wednesday 1st November 2023) for collection tomorrow (Thursday 2nd November)
  • Please instead put your bins out on Thursday morning (2nd November.)

Service Director of waste and environment, Natasha Dix said,

“Under the waste and recycling rules, you are able to place bins out after 7pm the night before your collection.

“However, with the high winds forecast, we are asking for you to place your bins and reusable sacks out on the morning of your collection – this is to minimise any damage over tonight and early hours tomorrow to your bins and to prevent any bins from blowing into roads overnight.”
