The Island Conservatives have been highly-secretive about which candidates they will be running in each of the Island’s wards in next year’s Isle of Wight council elections.
We have asked numerous councillors if they intend to run again and in which seat. They’ve all remained extremely shy – even the current council leader David Pugh who wouldn’t disclose if he was going to run in his Shanklin seat again.
This background made it all the more surprising that a new entrant, Chris Whitehouse, declared here on On The Wight that he would be running as a candidate in the Newport West ward.
No stranger to capital-P Politics
Whitehouse is not new to capital-P Politics, but he hasn’t run before on the Island. He’s intimately involved with Politics at a National level through his company, Whitehouse Consultancy and was previously Deputy Leader of South Bucks district council.
Last year he had a very public falling out with the Isle of Wight council over their mismanagement of the Faith school concessionary travel survey which he labelled as ‘fundamentally flawed’ and accused David Pugh of making a “serious and defamatory allegation”.
