The Rt. Hon. Ann Widdecombe told pupils at Christ the King college last week to “never let anyone tell you that you can’t do something that you really want to do.”
This was the first of three important life messages that Ann gave to students last week, following the invitation by friend of the college, Chris Whitehouse.
Good things come to those who wait
The second message was not to expect anything that’s worth having to come quickly.
Ann said: “It will come over a lifetime. Nothing comes overnight.”
Do things for others
Her last message was that “nothing is worth having unless it is done for God and other people.”
Ann explained to the pupils: “You might get to your destination but when you look around there will be no one left to share your success with.”
An important point Ann made was to look out for other people struggling, she said: “Watch out for people in the slow lane, or not on the road at all.”
Anton and I would have flown
Ann also answered a number of questions from the students and revealed that if her and dancing partner, Anton du Beke, had reached the Strictly Come Dancing final, they would have danced suspended above the dance floor.
The plan was to fly in from either end of the studio and meet in the middle to dance in the air.
Ann said: “Think what you missed.”
To finish, Ann explained that she became an MP to make a difference, she encouraged the students to make a difference in their lives too.
