Christmas is without a doubt a time of giving-or so it should be. In this modern world of commercialisation, everyone should be reminded that wishing someone a merry Christmas doesn’t require great expense.
For many people, Christmas is a festive time that enables close friends and family to get together, but not everyone is so lucky.
Have you ever thought to drop a card round to a neighbour and see how they are doing rather than ramming it through their letter box? It can really make a positive difference.
Have you ever thought about giving someone a gift aid present rather than giving them something that will be stored away until you find it back in your possession (I’ve heard that story a few times)?
Crafty volunteers get busy
Well last year, the YMCA collected used Christmas cards from the local community to resource the ‘Christmas wishes’ project.
Since January 2009, YMCA vinvolved volunteers have been using their creative skills to craft their very own vibrant groovy Christmas cards; volunteering from home and at Winchester House.
Our volunteers have decided that for their festive act of kindness they plan to undertake a ‘Christmas wishes’ card mini give away tour.
Spreading goodwill
During Saturday 19th December YMCA Christmas Wishes volunteers plan to visit the residents at Leonard Cheshire Home, also that day they will give out cards to the general public in St Thomas’ Square, Newport.
Not only have they managed to re-use cards which were originally donated by the community they now hope to make those people and others smile for FREE!!
