The Cowes Floating Bridge has been out of action since Monday afternoon.
This afternoon, Tuesday, the isle of Wight council issued a statement explaining what the cause of the suspension was.
It reads:
“After some investigation this morning (14th November), the issue seems to be with the chain tensions in the chain pits which were impeding the movement of the chains.
“It is likely that the recent floods etc have carried debris into the chain pits that have fouled the movement of the chains.
“We are in the process of cleaning out the pits and once completed, it will be necessary to re-tension the chains.
“Owing to the tides, this will take place tomorrow morning (15th November).
“We will then test the performance of the Floating Bridge at low, mid and high tide with a view to returning to service at 1200 tomorrow.”
