Less than a month ago, Abigail Fox from Ryde thought she’d try and get Islanders to donate items for the refugees in temporary camps in Calais.
Little did she know that it would turn into a logistical operation, needing many drop-off points around the Isle of Wight, drivers, sorters, a warehouse and more.
Four Transit van’s worth
That aside, she pulled it off, and on Sunday ‘Collection for Calais’ volunteers will be driving to CalAid’s depot in London to drop-off the collection.
There’ll be four transit vans leaving the Island, all full with clothes, camping gear, sleeping bags, toiletries etc ultimately destined for Calais.
Free travel from Red Funnel
Well done to Red Funnel for covering the cost of return journey for the four vans, who’ll be setting off early on Sunday morning.
A massive well done to Abi and the other volunteers. OnTheWight is pleased to have been able to play a part in this great initiative.
