‘View from an Island’ attracted professionals from the Isle of Wight Council’s social services service, Isle of Wight Clinical Commissioning Group, Isle of Wight NHS Trust, residential and nursing care home providers, and voluntary sector representatives, as well as those who use the services already provided on the Island, and their carers.
Experts and innovators gathered to assist those at the heart of large-scale integration of health and social services developments, to take a step further towards realising these important changes.
Shaping future services
Lots of innovative suggestions were made, with simple and more radical opportunities put forward. Delegates undertook a variety of table-top exercises to start to shape ideas for the future.
Councillor Steve Stubbings, Executive Member for Adult Social services, Integration and Human Resources, said:
“The conference was a great opportunity for us to examine the emerging opportunities for improvement and innovation, but also to capture the voices and experiences of local people who receive the current services.”
Consolidating progress
The event aimed to consolidate the extensive progress that has already been made to integrate health and social services pathways and to understand the scale of transformation and change that lies ahead.
Key note speeches from Helen Bevan, an international change management expert who has worked across many NHS change programmes, and Geoff Holt; a disability sports ambassador, who inspired delegates through his work in disability sailing, to recognise the ability for individuals to lead a full and active life.
The conference was sponsored by My Life a Full Life, through the recent Vanguard funding bid.
