THE IW Council has added its congratulations to the organisers of Island music festivals who have scooped prestigious industry awards.
The IW Festival at Seaclose was named best major festival and the Bestival at Robin Hill best medium-sized event in the annual Virtual Festivals awards ceremony in London.
John Giddings, IW Festival organisers Solo also received an award for his contribution to UK festivals.
Praising the achievements of both organisers, IW Council chief executive Joe Duckworth, said: “The IW Council recognises both the quality of our festivals as cultural events and also their value to the Island in terms of raising its profile and boosting its economy
“But it is great that the leading festival awards have also acknowledged what brilliant events these two festivals are.”
Leader David Pugh added: “The council is increasingly using events such as these fantastic festivals to spread the word about what a great place the Island is.
“This recognition shows just how highly the events are regarded by the festival audiences themselves. And if they have positive views on the festivals, then hopefully that means they also have positive views of the Island as well.
“We will continue to work with festival organisers and do all we can to ensure the Island’s music events continue to be the best in the UK.”
