Conservative Leader shares best wishes with council Leader for full recovery

The Leader of the Conservative Group of Isle of Wight councillors has shared his best wishes for the Leader of the council, Cllr Lora Peacey-Wilcox, who it was announced today, will be reducing her workload temporarily to recover and recharge her batteries.

Cllr Steve Hastings said,

“I was sorry to see that Lora was taken ill at last night’s meeting. It is fully understandable that she is now taking some time off to recharge her batteries, and – on behalf of the Conservative Group – I wish her well for a full recovery.

“There is no doubt that Lora works extremely hard in her council leader role and I look forward to seeing her back in County Hall in due course.”

Hastings: “Important that we all look after ourselves”
He went on to add,

“Having recently suffered from my own bout of ill health (which is ongoing), I was grateful for the good wishes recently received from the Alliance Cabinet.

“It is important that we all look after ourselves, ensuring we maintain our own health and wellbeing, whilst also looking out for each other.”

Cllr Hastings finished by saying,

“After a challenging year, I have no doubt that many Islanders are looking forward to a well-deserved break over Christmas, whilst recognising that there are many public servants who will be continuing to work hard throughout the festive period to keep us safe.”

I don’t think I’ve ever known the leader of a local party feel the need to contact a local media site to pass on their well wishes… let alone see a local media site actually publish it! (Unless I have misunderstood it, and perhaps Steve Hastings comments were invited by OTW?)

Totally agree, and can see no reason why this should not have been shared, sensitively on On The Wight, the one media outlet that is streets ahead with reporting local information. From what I have seen of our Council Leader, Councillow Peacey-Wilcox will have been giving the role 110% and I hope she will receive the help she needs and be back soon. We do not want… Read more »

OTW frequently censors posted content & blocks user accounts, for undisclosed reasons??

Sometimes it lies about it too.

OTW has “house rules”. Sometimes people breach those rules. On occasion I’ve unwittingly fallen foul of those rules. Whenever that has happened I’ve had a polite explanation from Sally as to why. I’ve never had occasion to question her editorial judgement. If your experience is different, perhaps you should examine your own conduct before questioning others? Is Hastings sincere? Or is he just trying to draw attention… Read more »

I have just read the rules & I’m unsure which one I’ve broken?

I would say you have broken two of them: Rule #1 (be libellous..) and rule #7 (be posted with the explicit intention of provoking other commentors or the staff at OnTheWight;) I personally found your reference to OTW as ‘it’ to be very rude too. Sally and Simon provide an excellent service to our community and work very hard to keep us all informed. They deserve our… Read more »

Thanks for clarifying Sally – I agree wholeheartedly about the precursor to this – it’s no mean feat to get burned-out in such a role. On a side note, it seems my question/comment provoked a bit of a discussion – that wasn’t what I’d intended! I only wanted to share an observation about how unusual this piece was, not to suggest that Steve wasn’t being genuine! It’s… Read more »
