We’ve just heard from a VB reader that the Isle of Wight council appears to have given parts of Ryde the wrong information about their new recycling scheme, supposed to be starting for them today.
We’re checking with the council to get the exact details (see update below).
Told wrong week
Along with her neighbours, Leesa put her food caddy and non-recyclable black bags this morning – her council-delivered calender had it marked down as a Pink week.
She returned home to find the food caddy had been emptied, but the black bag was still there. The same was duplicated down her road.
Another trip to pick up waste
Calling Island Waste services they told her that some people been given wrong recycling week by the council. The advice she was given was – leave the black bag out and a special journey would be made to tidy up the mess.
Leesa thought she probably wasn’t the first to call as the lady answering the phone at Island Waste Services sounded pretty exasperated.
Update 16.29:
After contacting the council about the problem, we received an unusually swift response.
They blame the distributor for the error telling us, “Due to an administrative error by a distributor, it appears some households in 23 Ryde streets were sent the incorrect waste collection calendar and have consequently put non-recyclable waste out for collection instead of their wheelie bins or clear sacks.”
The press officer also confirmed that the waste will be collected today and the affected households are being sent the correct information and a letter of apology.
Had problems too?
If you’ve have/had had problems with the new waste system, do get in touch, either by leaving a comment below, or direct with VB.
