Council seek your views on three Isle of Wight ‘area action plans’

This in from the council, in their own words. Ed

The Isle of Wight Council has published draft area action plans for public consultation, covering the areas of Medina Valley, Ryde and The Bay.

The draft plans can be found on the council’s Website, at the receptions at Seaclose offices and County Hall, Newport, and at libraries within the action plan areas (as well as embedded below).

The consultation began on 6 November and continues until 21 December.

The draft documents contain proposed policies and approaches which it is hoped will stimulate debate.

Notifications have also been sent to councillors and town and parish councils within the action plan areas, as well as statutory consultees and agents/architects.

Key Regeneration Areas
Medina Valley, Ryde and The Bay are identified as Key Regeneration Areas in the Island Plan Core Strategy.

The draft plans for the areas look at a range of issues relating to land-use and propose various allocations for housing and employment. They also propose to designate land as local green spaces and local green gaps, and have policies relating to retail, tourism and infrastructure.

Following the statutory consultation, there will be a further period of representation, followed by an independent examination by a planning inspector. Depending on the outcome of the examination, the council will then make a formal decision regarding the adoption of the plans.

Consultation needs to be ‘meaningful’
Councillor Paul Fuller, Executive member for planning, said:

“This consultation on the area action plans is important for communities and local businesses, as this will, when adopted, offer certainty on how best we can grow our economy while safeguarding our environment for future generations. It is important that this consultation is meaningful and residents share their thoughts on how our Island evolves.”
