Back in November, 2011 the Isle of Wight council failed in their defence of a Judicial review that found that the council’s policy designed to meet the needs of disabled adults was itself unlawful.
The costs of the unsuccessful attempt are creeping up. First the council announced that the cost of the legal representative they engaged was £48,090.
On Friday they announced the cost of the law firm, Irwin Mitchell, that brought the case on behalf of two of Islanders was £149,024.26.
IWC internal cost?
What remains undisclosed is, on top of the £197,114.26 that we’ve been told about, what are the council’s own internal costs that should be added to the currently disclosed costs.

- The cost of this time
- The number of hours of officer time spent on the case
- The cost of the officer time
Despite repeated reminders, including another last Friday, the Isle of Wight council has failed to answer any of these questions about their internal costs.
