Thanks to John for this latest news from Cowes Enterprise College. Ed

Students at Cowes Enterprise College are celebrating their achievements as they receive their results this morning.

Students at the school, which is sponsored by Ormiston Academies Trust, have performed particularly well in a number of subjects, with progress that is well above national averages in English, Media Studies, Art and Sports studies.

Success stories
There are a number of individual success stories, including:

  • Wilf Armfield, who gained 7A* grades, 4 A grades and an A in AS level Mathematics. Wilf, who also composes his own music which has been performed by the school orchestra, has been offered a scholarship to study the International Baccalaureate at Ryde School.
  • Michael Ilott was struck down with meningitis at a critical time in Year 11, and had to spend more than two weeks in hospital and had a period of bed-rest after that. Despite this, he was able to regain lost ground and achieved a very creditable 2As, 6Bs and 2Cs. He was also selected to represent the Isle of Wight at the international Island Games, running both the 800 metres and the 1500 metres races. He beat his personal best time in both and delivered an exceptional performance for one of the youngest members of the Island team.

Furthermore:

  • 32 students gained 10 or more GCSEs at grades A*-C
  • 14 students gained 10 passes all at A*/A/B grades

Principal at Cowes Enterprise College, John Peckham said:

“I would like to thank students and staff for all their work this academic year and to congratulate them on their successes.

“At Cowes we are committed to ensuring all students reach their potential.

“We look forward to seeing many students next year as they return to join our sixth form, and wish others the best of luck as they go on to the next phase of their education or into employment.”
