The crew of a yacht belonging to the Metropolitan Police Sailing Club who suddenly found themselves loitering without intent on a gravel bank Saturday afternoon had to receive a helping hand from the RNLI’s Cowes lifeboat.
The 36 foot The Blue Spirit of Broadway went aground at the mouth of Beaulieu River, while on passage, with five men on board, from Beaulieu to the Isle of Wight’s River Medina.
After being alerted to their plight by Solent Coastguards, Cowes lifeboat, the Atlantic 85 Tabby Cat, with Simon Hawkins at the helm, raced to its aid. With the help of a line attached to the yacht’s halyard the lifeboat soon managed to pull it free, enabling it to continue on to a river mooring at the Folly.
