Cowes Harbour launch starts an alongside tow up-river of the fishing boat

Cowes lifeboat rescues two men and teenager following fishing boat fire

A fire aboard a small fishing boat, carrying two men and a 13-year-old boy, led to an urgent call-out for Cowes RNLI lifeboat this (Sunday) morning.

The outboard had caught fire when the 18-foot craft was over Gurnard Ledge.

Fire extinguished by crew
The lifeboat, which launched at 9.35 am, arrived to find that although the fire had been extinguished by the crew the boat needed to be towed.

It was duly first taken to Trinity Landing, Cowes, where local firemen went aboard to ensure all was safe. Also on the scene were Needles Coastguards.

Towed up the River Medina
The fishing boat, which had set out from Langston Harbour very early that morning, was then towed up the River Medina by a Cowes Harbour launch.

The lifeboat returned to station at 10.40am.
