An exercise for Cowes RNLI lifeboat turned into something more serious today (Saturday) when it was called upon to go to the aid of a powerboat taking on water off The Needles.
When the emergency was reported Cowes lifeboat volunteered to assist as it was already in the Solent. Before the lifeboat arrived on the scene another boat had pumped out the water.
Eventually the lifeboat escorted the powerboat and its two occupants to Lepe; there Hamble lifeboat took over escort duties as the powerboat carried on to Southampton Water.
Cowes lifeboat returned to station at 3.30pm.
