Surrey tourists Bagshot provided the opposition for the Ventnor President’s XI at Steephill on Saturday.
Brian Gardener’s side included Chris Russell, the former Ventnor youngster whose impressive performances with the new ball at Worcestershire have been rewarded with a two year professional contract with the County.
Batting first, the President’s side totalled 242-3, with Mark Price making 61, Mark Fletcher 53, Billy Clarke 49, Neil Westhorpe 28 and Ben Clarke 31 not out.
Bagshot’s reply was led by Jack Grinstead with 73 and Jason Skilton (71) before a spell of 4-42 from Elliot Wilson and 2-28 from Adam Hose (2-28) and Ben Clarke (2-10) pegged them back. Geoff Young’s side closed on 213-9 to draw the game.
This match proved to be the last of the season. Rain washed out the Sunday game with Old Tauntonians & Romsey while this Saturday’s scheduled opposition have cancelled their tour.
