Jhelisa Anderson and Robert Mitchell to perform a rare collaboration

American-born singer/songwriter and recording artist, Jhelisa Anderson, and stellar British pianist and composer, Robert Mitchell, will perform at Quay Arts, Newport on Friday 19 October.

Listening to Jhelisa Anderson’s deep, blues, soul, jazz, vocals blended with Robert Mitchell’s phenomenal jazz piano is an unforgettable musical experience as they explore provocative new arrangements of the powerful and timeless classics of Nina Simone, one of the greatest ladies of Jazz, as well as new original compositions bringing both these musical cultures to life as you have never heard them before.

Two leaders in Jazz
Robert Mitchell is a piano orchestra unto himself and this is a rare opportunity to listen and watch these two leaders in Jazz come together as they create something truly rare and powerful.

Jhelisa launched her jazz career with the critically acclaimed solo album, Galactica Rush (Dorado Records 1994).

Prestigious collaborations
Her music has been recorded by Chaka Khan and Incognito’s Maysa Leake. She has worked with Courtney Pine and Steve Williamson and has supported James Brown, Herbie Hancock, Roy Ayers and Mavis Staples.

Robert has released seven albums and played with artists Greg Osby, Omar Puente, Steve Coleman, Norma Winstone, Matana Roberts, Jose James and Ty among others.
