Cultural exchange thrives as Isle of Wight hosts visitors from Japan

Isle of Wight Friendship Force has recently welcomed a small group of Japanese visitors into our homes. Coming from a small, inland city, Ota, they loved our sea views, together with English food and our tourist attractions.

Highlights included Osborne House, gardens and beach and the coloured sands of Alum Bay. They also loved the bus journey there, being excited to see the villages en route, with their old houses and gardens, so different from their own. The sheep grazing in the fields also fascinated them!

They enjoyed eating traditional English food such as roast beef, and, on another night, Coronation chicken, followed by a Christmas pudding!

Cultural exchange
One of the great pleasures of Friendship Force is the cultural exchange involved, and learning so much about others’ lifestyles.

Visitors stay in our homes, so there’s plenty of opportunity to immerse themselves in our culture.

Brazilian and North American guests
We’re looking forward to welcoming our Brazilian guests who will be arriving on the Island shortly. Members are excited about going to Japan in early 2025, at the time of the cherry blossom season.

Later next year, we welcome to the Island two North American clubs: one from Canada and one from the USA.
