Thanks to Richard Heming for sharing this latest news from Yarmouth RNLI. Ed
Yarmouth RNLI is delighted to reveal that, on 1st December 2015, Dame Ellen MacArthur, DBE, agreed to succeed Dave Kennett MBE as the chairman of the Yarmouth RNLI Management Committee.
Her remarkable sailing achievements captured the world’s imagination, culminating in her world record for a single handed non-stop circumnavigation of the globe in 2005.
The Foundation and Cancer Trust
Made aware of the nature of finite resources through her racing, Dame Ellen stepped away from sailing in 2010 to set up the Ellen MacArthur Foundation which works with business, government and academia to build a framework for an economy that is restorative and regenerative by design.
She is also the founder of the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, a charity, helping young people to regain their confidence through sailing, when in recovery from cancer and leukaemia which continues her strong association with the sea.
Dave Kennett, who was coxswain of the Yarmouth Lifeboat for 23 years will continue to be involved as the Yarmouth RNLI Station President.
