We hear that yet another current Conservative councillor (and Cabinet member) has declared their intention to not stand in the 2013 local council elections.
Cllr Dawn Cousins, who covers the Newport North ward, told constituents in her latest newsletter that she will not stand next year.
We’ve been in touch with Cllr Cousins to find out why she will stand down and will update here once we hear back, which she quickly responded with:-
I have much enjoyed being a councillor and hope my efforts have made a difference and given working for the good of the IOW community was the reason I stood in the first place hope it has.
I have particularly enjoyed holding firstly the Adult Social Care, Health and Housing portfolio and will particularly miss my present Cabinet role covering Children’s Services which I do enjoy.
However as you see in my news letter I wish to spend more time with my family particularly with my two children who both now live and work in London
I did say two terms would be the duration I hoped to achieve and while I was thinking early this year about possibly standing again have decided for the reasons detailed in my residents newsletter to stand down and not seek re election.
She’ll join Tim Hunter-Henderson and Roger Mazillius who have also declared they will not be standing.
