Ventnor matters to me
I’ve lived here for six years and can say, hand on heart, that I’ve never felt so passionate about a place and it’s people.
I’m self-employed and have been most of my adult life. Currently I renovate property & let to holiday makers. This means that I have hands on, day to day experience of the two most important issues facing Ventnor in the future – planning and tourism.
The dangers of short-sighted, inappropriate development threaten our town.
Once destroyed, the unique and precious nature of Ventnor will be gone for ever and with it will go the visitors who are the life blood of the town’s economy. I know this because I earn my living selling Ventnor and it’s attractions to my customers.
Each vote in Ventnor matters
My recent involvement with the protest against the Mill Bay re-development has taught me that every single vote, every single voice, matters. Many in the town were opposed but felt powerless, fearing ‘it would happen anyway’, regardless of their individual opinions.
Others, including myself, (who you may have heard on IOW Radio or seen rushing around town distributing leaflets), were moved to action and raised their voices in opposition.
Despite a powerful local business being the planning applicant and despite IOW planning officers advising approval, the Mill Bay plans were rejected by Ventnor Town Council and The Isle of Wight Council Planning Committee. They heard, loud and clear, the objections of the people of Ventnor and their representatives.
Ventnor West matters
The seat on the town council was left vacant by the resignation of Meg Mortimer. It needs to be filled by someone with a strong, committed voice informed by down to earth common sense and integrity – someone with the energy and tenacity to challenge the status quo and get things done.
I have no allegiances to party politics or bigger business interests. With me what you see is what you get.
Ventnor has had a fabulous past and is poised to embrace a brilliant future. If you value your town and want to see it back on the map for all the right reasons, please vote for me at the Winter Gardens on Thursday 13th December.
