Footpaths next
Once the above have been sorted out, the council say that attention will then be turned to footways in our town centres which are most in need of attention.
Peter Hayward, head of highways and transport, said: “We do not have indefinite resources and have had to prioritise those resources to make sure that our main road network remains operational.
“The team has done some sterling work but it is only now that we have secured the operation of that network that we will begin to turn our attention to the other roads. However given the continuing freezing conditions and forecast of more snow our focus will be on keeping our main roads operating
“I do urge all road users including pedestrians to take care. Contrary to some suggestions, the council is not discouraging property and business owners from clearing away the footways in front of their premises if they chose to do so. Indeed we would encourage them to take this action.”
