ISLE of Wight Council and Western Challenge Housing Association have together selected a short list of four residential developers who are being asked to draw up detailed design plans for an extension to Pan in Newport.
The council and the housing association, who are working in partnership on the ground-breaking project, are asking the four developers to come up with detailed, costed proposals for the extension which is set to be built on around 18 hectares of council owned land.
The exacting brief from the council and the housing association will require the developers to come up with an exemplar development of 800 new homes — 30 percent of which will be affordable.
Medina Housing Association who manage more than 500 homes next to the proposed development site and the Pan Neighbourhood Partnership are already actively involved in managing the integration of the two communities into one.
The partnership requires the new homes to exceed Level Four of the nationally agreed code for sustainable homes.
The four short listed developers are Barratt, Miller Homes, Persimmon and Redrow, Trowers and Hamlins. Property consultants Knight Frank are advising the council and the partnership respectively.
Leader of Isle of Wight Council Councillor David Pugh said:
“The development at Pan is one of the largest that has ever been proposed for the Isle of Wight and will help towards meeting our exacting targets for building affordable homes on the Island over the next few years.
“it is vitally important that the homes are built to a high standard and that the planned development integrates with the existing community at Pan.
“All four developers who have been short listed will have their plans subjected to the most rigorous scrutiny over the next few months before the council and its partners make a final decision.”
