Did someone press the button early? Google Maps showing many closed Isle of Wight roads (updated)

If you were travelling on the Isle of Wight today and using Google Sat Nav, you may have encountered several unexpected road closures.

Dan Morgan from Island PC noticed the issue and got in touch with News OnTheWight to share the news.

Two weeks early?
As you can see from our screen grabs above and below and from Dan’s short video below it almost looks as though someone has accidentally turned on the rolling road closures two weeks early for the Tour of Britain cycle race – due to take place next Sunday.

Explanation
At time of publishing, many of the roads that were showing as closed earlier today are still marked as being closed until 12th September – the day after the final stage of the Tour of Britain takes place on the Island.

News OnTheWight will write to Island Roads and Isle of Wight council to find out what went wrong.
