VB reader Paul Knights saw an amazing phenomenon on Monday night and wonders if other VB readers saw the same. Ed
I was out getting stuff from the garage on Monday night (5th) when I took the time to stare up at the sky for a while.
As my eyes adjusted I became very aware of this large clear circle/halo around the moon.
I went indoors to grab my camera and tripod and squeezed off a couple of 16 second exposures before it disappeared.
Did you see it?
Did anyone else see this? Apparently the phenomenon is known as a moon halo and is due to icy particles up high in the stratosphere (wispy clouds were present) refracting light from the moon.
It was 8.19pm recorded on this image … and I’m so glad I made the effort to capture the moment.
(If you have other photos of it, please send them to us – Ed)
