A key section of a major road out of Cowes closed at midnight and will remain so for the next seven weeks.
It’s going to make that journey quite difficult, as a large diversion will now have to be made.
Having read the details of the diversion and finding ourselves a little confused, we thought you might suffer the same, so have built a map for you, to save you the trouble. As well as the large graphic above, we’ve also embedded an interactive version of it at the bottom of this article.
Council’s words
The section below was put out by the Isle of Wight council – in their words.
A3020 Newport Road will be closed from five past midnight on Mon 24 September until approx 6pm on Sun 11 November 2012 between Three Gates Road and Public Footpath CS30 (approx 70 metres from Cowes Medical Centre).
The closure is for the installation of a new foul water sewer by K Coghlan in connection with the construction of a new Supermarket on land owned by BAE Systems adjacent to Three Gates Road.
DIVERSION ROUTE: Three Gates Road, Place Road, Park Road, Victoria Road , Mill Road and Newport Road.
Changes to bus services
During the closure the existing number 1 bus service that usually operates along A3020 Newport Road will operate non stop to Carvel Lane (Co-op) from the Somerton Park and Ride (adjacent to Somerton Roundabout); along Three Gates Road, Place Road, Park Road and Terminus Road.
A temporary shuttle bus will operate on each day, along the section of Service 1 route that is not served by the main route: It is being financed by the project consultants / BAE Systems and will not use the Red Jet Terminal.
FROM CARVEL LANE (CO-OP TOWARDS NORTHWOOD CEMETERY / COWES MEDICAL CENTRE: the shuttle will travel along the following route; Terminus Road, left into Victoria Road, left into Mill Hill Road, right into Newport Road, ending at a temporary bus stop outside Northwood Cemetery Gates.
FROM NORTHWOOD CEMETERY / COWES MEDICAL CENTRE TOWARDS CARVEL LANE: The shuttle bus will start from a temporary bus stop outside Northwood Cemetery Gates then turn
right into Mill Hill Road, left into Victoria Road, right into Terminus Road and terminate at Carvel Lane.
The shuttle bus service times from Carvel Lane will be; 6am, 6.30am, 7am (then every 20 minutes until 7pm), then every 30 minutes until 11.30pm.
The shuttle bus service times from the temporary bus stop outside Northwood Cemetery Gates will be; 6.20am, 6.50am (then every 20 minutes until 6.50pm), then every 30 minutes until 11.50pm.
