Scooter Rally ride out showing lots of people riding scooters

Documentary short film brings Isle of Wight Scooter Rally to life for all

Last weekend saw the return of thousands of vintage scooters to the Island for the annual Isle of Wight Scooter Rally.

Held every bank holiday weekend, this event has been going for decades and some who come over from Mainland have been coming every year without fail.

Local film-maker Paul Knights, who himself rides a scooter, took the opportunity to capture some footage to create a film for those who couldn’t make it along.

Sifted through 600+ clips
He filmed over three days, then sifted through more than 600 clips of footage to create a 13 minute short film of three parts.

It begins with the arrival of the scooterists at Portsmouth Harbour, followed by footage from Sandown Airport and Ryde Esplanade, and ends with the famous Ride Out, when all the scooterists gather in Ryde to snake around the east side of the Island, through Nettlestone, Bembridge, Sandown and onto Sandown Airport in Lake.

Paul had to listen to numerous background music tracks to find the right ones to suit the subject and put in a few late nights editing.

It was certainly worthwhile, as he has produced a great short film that really gives the person watching the feeling of being right there, in among the scooterists.
