VentnorBlog has been contacted by a concerned husband after he says his wife was attack by a dog in Shanklin.
He tells us that his wife was walking through Batts Copse last Friday (13.Jan) at mid-day on her way to pick up their three year old daughter from Shanklin Primary school when the incident occurred.
She thought the dog, which she identified as a Japanese Akita, was approaching her to be friendly, but much to her horror, they tell us it actually sunk its teeth into her thigh. While trying to get it off her, it then bit her elbow.
Shaken
She had to have the bite treated including a course of antibiotics. Following the event, she’s become nervous, concerned that it might happen again.
Her husband tells VB that the man walking the dog had two of them, both off their leads.
The husband of the lady that was attacked got in touch with VB to spread the message to other, so they can avoid a similar fate, “We just want people to be aware that these dogs are out there and to take care around them. Goodness know what might have happened if my three year old daughter had been with my wife.”
Police trying to identify dog
The incident has been reported to the Police and they tell VB they are following several lines of enquiry to identify the owner of the dog, including extra patrols in the Batts Copse and surrounding areas by the Shanklin and Lake Safer Neighbourhoods teams.
Witnesses or anyone with information about the identity of the dog or its owner are asked to phone Shanklin police station on 101. Mini-Com users can call 01962 875000. Information can be given anonymously by phoning the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
Police are keen to point out that this has no connection to the events of last week when a young puppy was attacked by a dog on Appley Beach.
