Don’t miss Ryde’s showcase of dance, music and drama out as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations

Saturday 4th June will see a showcase of dance, music and drama out in Ryde High Street as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The Arts Council’s Let’s Create Jubilee grant was awarded to Ryde Business Association through the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Fund.

Take part in and experience the arts, culture and creativity
Darren Henley, Chief Executive at Arts Council England said,

“The Let’s Create Jubilee Fund is a wonderful example of our ambition to give everyone the opportunity to participate in and experience the arts, culture and creativity – made possible thanks to National Lottery players.

“This June, we’ll see communities across England coming together to celebrate a historic milestone for this country. I’m excited to see these projects brought to life in villages, towns and cities across the country as our wonderfully creative communities celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.”

The grant has allowed a number of Ryde organisations to combine their efforts, seeing the New Carnival Company, Monkton Arts, Ryde Arts, and Riboleau Street Studios involved.

Thompson: Entertainment and activities in the heart of the town
Zoe Thompson, Chair of Ryde Business Association said,

“We were very happy to be successful in obtaining this grant. With the amount of creatives working in Ryde it made sense that we look at bringing what we can ‘ONTO THE STREET’ for part of the celebrations.

“Having entertainment and activities in the heart of the town, means people can enjoy what is going on as well as supporting our local businesses. We hope people will come to Ryde and spend the whole day here, grab some lunch, do some shopping and enjoy the celebrations too.”

Not too late to get involved
There is still time for people to get involved – if you would like to take part in the dance performance, suitable for children and young people of all abilities, or you would like to head into town for some busking, then please contact: katy@thenewcarnivalcompany.com

Those heading to Ryde on Saturday 4th June will be able to see:

Back to the Future – The next Generation’. Community dance performances taking us through the last 70 years, with a skateboard display too. Scheduled in Co-Op Square.

Cheeky Monkey’. One half of the very popular duo comes to Ryde to showcase his circus skills. Co-Op Square 2pm, and finale in the High Street 3.15pm

What does Bob intend to do? Make sure that the notion of a fixed link is buried forever and that his chums at the ferry companies should not be subject to scrutiny from the CMA it would appear!

You’ll certainly be yawning if your late night sailing is cancelled, especially if it involves spending the very early hours of the morning in some desolate ferry terminal when you might prefer to have completed your journey and be snugly tucked up in bed on the island. Doesn’t affect Bob though, dare I say it, I don’t want to upset his minder Mr Pugh, but Bob owns… Read more »

I was yawning as your response is totally predictable as ever. In terms of late night sailings I prefer to have a plan B or more usually avoid the “last ferry” scenario entirely.

Nice to see your sympathetic response to Steve Gibbs problems, experiences that many other of us islanders have shared!

If you’re not interested in the problems that us islanders have with the ferries why do you bother commenting at all?

Totally agree with Steve Gibbs that the ferry problems need addressing. However, bringing up the white elephant of the fixed link every time this is mentioned is getting really boring. It is dead in (or under) the water…

He may make some noise like he has before, may even write a letter but actions speak louder than words. In 3 yrs as our MP he’s done nowt except posture and pose and then go back to his masters and vote for more cuts like a good little puppy.

But Nitonia, look at the photo. Bob has his sleeves rolled up, so you can see he really means business!

I agree he should do more on this fundamental issue but THERE ISN’T GOING TO BE A FIXED LINK

Personally, I am looking forward to the next five years of Bob achieving nothing.

Some of these comments appear to be more political than travel related. How many of these people actually went to the mainland for Christmas? We did, no problem at all.
