The Island Draft Planning Strategy (DIPS) will be coming back before the Isle of council next week.
At the November Full Council meeting a motion was passed giving the Leader, Cllr Lora Peacey Wilcox, sixty days to either return with a revised DIPS or inform Full Council of a disagreement the Cabinet has with Full Council’s previous objections to the plan.
Impact of new National Planning Policy Framework
Since that meeting, the Government have announced two consultations connected to changes in the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) that could have an impact on any revised DIPS that comes forward on the Island.
The revised NPPF is due to be published and ‘come into force’ in Spring 2023.
Extension to motion timetable
Therefore, a motion at next week’s Full Council meeting is calling for the deadline for the revised DIPS to be returned to Full Council – currently early February 2023 – to be extended to no later than June 2023.
This will allow time after revised NPPF being published to make any necessary amendments to the DIPS.
What is the Island Planning Strategy?
The Island Planning Strategy sets out how the council’s planning decisions could contribute to achieving the council’s vision for the Isle of Wight.
It will deal with future needs and opportunities in relation to infrastructure, homes, jobs and businesses, community facilities and the environment. It will also set out the principles that will guide future development, including housing and employment land.
The council’s proposed DIPS was rejected at the October extraordinary Full Council meeting.
Where and when
Isle of Wight councillors will consider the motion on Wednesday 18th January 2023 from 6pm ay County Hall.
Members of the public are welcome to watch the meeting from the public gallery, or if not able to attend, can follow the meeting online (via a link in the agenda – which is added nearer the time).
