Sixty-four years ago Eddie and Gloria Minghella founded what has become the Isle of Wight’s most popular ice cream business.
The family-run business, which has been based at its factory in Wootton for around 30 years will be on the move next year to new premises.
However, it’s not the only change taking place within the business.
‘Early’ retirement for founder
Gioia Minghella said,
“My father Eddie, who founded the business in 1950, has decided that this is the right time to take ‘early’ retirement.
“Now a mere youngster of only 93, his original plan was to work until he was 100! This is obviously a momentous decision and follows the sad death of my mother in March. So the timing is also right to market the Wootton site.
“The process of finding a suitable new home has already started and we aim to ensure that there will be no disruption to our customers. This will be an exciting new chapter for me and my husband Richard, and for Minghella ice cream.”
Eddie has a rich history of decades of involvement with charity work and a devotion to his local community. We hope he does manage to put his feet up and take a very well-earned rest.
