East Cowes town crafters have created a lovely display fit for the Queen ….we hope Her Majesty would approve.
It took two days to put up with the help of East Cowes Fire Service, on Monday as part of their ladder training. A big thank you goes to them!
The women and men of East Cowes Town Crafters knitted, sewed, cross-stitched, crocheted, stitched, cut, drilled, painted and varnished creations over three months to create a fantastic display.
It includes seven large boards for each decade of the Queen’s reign, which have mini-boards that show historical events that happened here on the Island, as well as other historical events.
As you’ll see from the photos, the chain arch has been decorated in the Platinum Jubilee colours with 32 heart wreaths, 32 flower wreaths, four shields with royal flags and the Jubilee emblem on and of course three Queen’s guards!
Around East Cowes you will also find mini-guards, silhouette of the Queen’s head, younger and older, among other images of the Queen, crowns – big and small – flowers and hearts, a piece for the RAF and between the shops, the women made cross-stitched flags attached to the bunting.
The umbrella tree has been decorated with hearts, mini-guards and crowns, mobile hangings, wreaths and bunting.
The town hall has a 17 by 12 foot Union Flag on stage, that was originally made by the women for VE day celebrations.
It will be in various places through the Jubilee weekend celebrations in East Cowes. Do come and have a look.
