Ed Blake announced as first candidate for upcoming Isle of Wight by-election

A by-election will be held just days before Christmas to fill a gap on the Isle of Wight council — and the first candidate has thrown their hat into the ring.

Following the resignation of Ventnor and St Lawrence councillor, Gary Peace at the end of October, a new representative is needed.

By-election underway
Enough people have now called for a by-election, that the Isle of Wight council is putting the wheels in motion.

If more than one candidate comes forward to fill the vacant seat, the by-election will be held on Thursday, 21st December 2023.

Those wishing to stand have until Friday, 24th November 2023 at 4pm to return their nomination papers, which can be found on the council’s website.

First candidate
The first candidate to come forward is local businessman and operator of Ventnor Haven Management, Ed Blake (pictured), for the Conservatives.

Hoping to fill the former Tory seat, Mr Blake said he believes the ward needs a councillor who has lived there for their whole life, understands the priorities of local people and who can be a strong and effective voice on their behalf.

Those in Ventnor and St Lawrence who are not yet registered to vote, but would like to be, have until midnight on Tuesday, 5th December 2023.

Applications can be made on the Gov website.

Applications for those requiring a postal vote must be made to County Hall in Newport by 5pm on Wednesday, 6th December 2023.

Who on earth voted these complete idiots in, time to get rid. They couldn’t sell food to a starving man.

Well it probably won’t affect Ian Ward as he’s already admitted he doesn’t always read the relevant materials he’s sent prior to making decisions!

The postal voting administration staff have been 99.95% accurate on this occasion.
I wonder how many times these armchair idiots above have ever been even remotely close to that mark. Certainly not in their use of grammar or facts. The whole electoral process is kept intrinsically separate from all political parties as anyone with even an iota of knowledge of the electoral process would know.
