VB readers may remember that a couple of weeks ago, fifteen year old Emily Ladd, a pupil from Carisbrooke High, spent the week at VB on work experience. Emily was kind enough to pen a few words about her time here to share with others. Ed
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at VentnorBlog. It was a great experience and it definitely worthwhile. I felt very welcomed into the lovely, coastal home where VentnorBlog is based and it turned out to be much better than I thought it would be.
An insight into journalism
It gave me a better insight on what working on a news publication was like. I found Simon and Sally both fairly relaxed and content with their work, which made me more at ease and able to complete the articles successfully.
On my first day, Simon went through some of the ins and outs of journalism. I began to write a few pieces and was given advice and tips on how to write them and set them out.
Reporting for the Island Games
I went on to writing reports and updates on the Island Games (which were taking place on the Island at the time) which was really fun. I also got to watch the woman’s basketball match on Thursday, which I reported for VB and added a podcast interview with one IOW basketball players.
I wrote a series of different articles including reports, updates, reminders, events and features; I was very pleased to get my pieces published to VentnorBlog!
“Brilliant opportunity”
I liked everything about the experience and there is nothing I would have changed about it. It was a brilliant opportunity and I hope to write a few more articles in the future for VentnorBlog .
Thank you very much for giving me this opportunity, I would recommend anyone who hasn’t seen the VentnorBlog to have a look.
