Enchanted Manor, Niton In AA B&B Final Three: Update

Enchanted Manor, Niton In AA B&B Final ThreeThe Enchanted Manor in Niton has made it to the last three for the AA’s Funkiest B&B Awards, which will culminate in the top prize being presented at London’s Mandarin Oriental hotel on 4th June.

They’ve received quite a few accolades since the took it over.

The Manor was transformed in 2006 by owners Maggie and Ric Hilton and already holds Five stars ratings for the Enjoy England Guest Accommodation award, Gold award and five stars for the AA guest accommodation, indeed it scored highly commended within the top 10% of the best guest accommodation within the UK.

We caught up with Maggie on the phone today, who told us that it’s even better now that when the AA last saw it, “When it was inspected it wasn’t completely done. Since then there has even more been completed.”

With their newly acquired wedding license, business is boosting even further, with the different approach they take to it, such as holding woodland picnics, in place of standard banquets.

If you haven’t seen it before, here’s a little video of it

There are some grammar things that irritate me beyond measure, I know they shouldn’t, but I can’t help myself:

“Less” instead of “Fewer”
“Can I?” instead of “May I?”

Homophone confusion makes my blood boil:

You’re/Your/Yore/Yaw
To/Too/Two

As a sentence, “Can I assist you’re teacher in helping you too make less mistakes in grammar?” could cause me to burst!

Pronouncing words that end with a g with a k (somethink instead of something etc). Well educated people can be heard doing this on the radio everyday!

There is also an early evening chat show where the female presenter keeps dropping the g at end of word as in eatin and drinkin – makes me cringe each time she is on!

I take the possibly incorrect view that language should be about communication & therefore should unite us. My son tells me that languages developed as away of differentiating one group from another & to unite that group rather tan humanity as a whole. Similarly grammar rules should make the sense clear & aid communication. If it is clear what someone means, an obsession with minutiae, merely to… Read more »
